Zionsville, Ind. (November 03, 2009) -The Indianapolis Executive Airport announced today that it has been designated the 2009 Indiana Airport of the Year by the Aviation Association of Indiana. Established in 2004, the award is based on economic development, contributions to aviation education, corporate citizenship and community outreach, safety and security, environmental improvements and aesthetics. Indianapolis Executive Airport is owned and operated by the Hamilton County Airport Authority and managed by Montgomery Aviation, Inc.
Factors contributing to Indianapolis Executive's recognition include strategic planning and growth, making it the airport with the eight-largest economic impact in Indiana by 2008, with an estimated impact of more than $87 million for 2009. Through corporate citizenship and community outreach, Indy Executive has positively impacted surrounding organizations and contributed to the overall economic development of the area, as well.
Other initiatives contributing to this recognition include Indianapolis Executive Airport's completion of a $3.4 million runway project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act CARRA). This project employed 70 workers for approximately two months in the summer of 2009. It was the first ARRA airport construction project for development and infrastructure improvement in the state of Indiana and the first to be completed in the United States.
The airport also recently completed a 20-year master plan that provided technical guidance for future plan development to support its forecasted growth and maintenance. As part of this master plan, the airport completed an environmental overview including a noise analysis and hosted a public information meeting at Indianapolis Executive Airport that allowed the public to provide feedback on the forecasted development.
A plaque commemorating the award will be displayed at the airport, and a stipend of $1,000 was donated by the Hamilton County Airport Authority to Down Syndrome Indiana, Jackson Center and the Commemorative Air Force.
