ECONOMIC Impact

The state of Indiana and local communities benefit from the economic impact Indianapolis Executive Airport provides through tax revenues, business expenditures and travel dollars spent with nearby businesses and industries. The economic impact of Indiana’s airports has been measured by the Aviation Association of Indiana, in conjunction with state and federal agencies, since 1984 through its annual Economic Impact Study.

With a combined direct and indirect annual impact of approximately $5.2 billion from the economic benefits generated, airports in the state of Indiana realize an increasing net effect on state and local economies as operations and services continue to grow. Expenditures by Indianapolis Executive Airport and its tenants in providing services, plus spending within the local community generated by travelers are considered as part of its overall economic impact. Additionally, the productive time, travel and vehicle cost savings from use of an airport in close proximity are factored in to realize transportation cost savings as a part of the equation.

Since Hamilton County assumed ownership of Indianapolis Executive Airport in 2003, the airport’s impact on state and local economies has significantly increased. The Aviation Association of Indiana Economic Impact Study identified the airport’s 2009 economic impact as close to $88 million, 2.75 times its $32 million impact as calculated in 2003. The airport’s Master Plan has predicted that business operations at Indy Exec will double by the year 2027, resulting in continually increased economic impact for the state and surrounding areas.
